Multi-characteristic overcurrent relay of feeder protection for minimum tripping times and self-protection

Abstract The main goal of this study is to propose new characteristics an REF 615 model (overcurrent and earth fault relay) that used for feeder protection in actual radial system Egyptian Substation. When studying current, both light heavy loads as well locations are considered based on the nature network. proposed algorithm relies simultaneously activating three settings OC relay, with being set respective normal inverse (NI), very (VI) definite time (DMT) curves. relay’s operating area divided into two areas. VI curve functions a backup NI first area, whereas second area. novelty model’s ability handle relay failure through its self-protection, which increases network’s level minimizes by about 41.07% rapid response fault. presence self-backup can minimize coordination interval between (CTI) 77.98%. ETAP software investigate analysis coordination.
